Great & Easy Steak Marinade

Here is a great marinade I made to soak our steaks in over night.  We have enjoyed it and it definitely helps to tenderize the steaks.  You will need a dish to soak the steaks in the marinade overnight.  I use a 3 inch deep medium sized rectangular glass dish and I usually submerge two 8 - 10 oz. steaks in it.  This is enough for us to cut off what the children will actually eat and still have a decent sized steak for the two of us, my husband and myself. We don't use leftovers often and I don't like to waste. So, I poke the steaks with a knife all over before placing them in the marinade just to help pull the marinade into the meat a little more.  Some people use injectors to add flavor to their meats.  I think it is easier and less messy to simply cut a few tiny slices in the meat by poking with a knife and let it soak.  I prefer ribeye or NY strip steaks but this is a great marinade for any kind of steak.  Ribeyes and NY strip steaks always provide the extra tenderness we enjoy.  We also prefer to grill the steaks. You may try this marinade on pork chops or chicken as well.  The vinegar, oil and Worcestershire sauce are great for softening and breaking down the meat to make it tender and the Worcestershire sauce helps add extra flavor to beef.

These will tenderize any kind of meat. You can experiment with other favorite seasonings and find what tastes the best for you.  We keep vinegar, oil, Worcestershire sauce and a variety of seasonings in our cabinets at all times, so this is something I can always throw together.  If you find that you don't have all the ingredients and you are really in a hurry, you can soak your steaks in Italian Dressing and get a great tasting and tender steak too!  The key is to soak them in something that has an ingredient that helps break some of the meat down (vinegar, salt, etc...) and give it time to do it's magic; preferably over night.

1 tablespoon vinegar
1/2 cup of vegetable oil
1/2 cup of water
1 cup of Worcestershire sauce
1 tablespoon of salt
1 tablespoon of black pepper
3 mashed & diced garlic cloves
1 tablespoon of cumin
1 tablespoon of paprika
1/2 tablespoon of oregano

1.  Whisk all of the ingredients together in a dish deep enough to submerge steaks in mixture.

2.  Submerge steaks in mixture and cover the dish with a lid or Saran wrap.

3.  Place in the refrigerator to be used sometime over the next couple of days.

4.  When you remove the steaks from the dish, shake off the excess marinade and grill.
