Here is a great soda from scratch to share with those you love on Valentine's Day!  My girls loved it!

You Will Need:
  • 2 cups of white granulated sugar
  • 1 cup of water
  • 1 tablespoon cinnamon powder
  • 1/8 teaspoon nutmeg
  • pinch of cumin
  • couple of pinches of cayenne (depends on how spicy hot you like it)
  • 1.5 liter club soda

  1. Put sugar in a stainless steel pot, add water, stir over medium heat until completely dissolved.  It will dissolve eventually.  Once the sugar is completely dissolved it will have the appearance of a thick frosty colored syrup.
  2. Mix dry ingredients together in one small dish.
  3. Remove syrup from the heat and pour dry ingredients into the pot. Add the food coloring.  Lightly press and gently/briefly stir any clumps down into the syrup. Resist temptation to stir very much or the cinnamon will cling to the sides rather than soak into the syrup.
  4. Cover and allow it to sit and seep while covered for 2 hours.
  5. After seeping, put the pot in the refrigerator and cool the red hot syrup concentrate.  Keep club soda in refrigerator also if you prefer soda without ice.
  6. When ready to serve the soda, add the red hot concentrate to a large pitcher.
  7. Slowly and easily pour the club soda into the syrup mixture and very gently stir to mix the syrup and soda together.
  8. Pour over ice and enjoy!
TIP:  If you do not want to serve over ice (helps preserve the carbonate) be sure to chill the club soda and concentrate until cool before mixing together and they will be cool enough to drink without adding ice.  Either way it is delicious!!  This recipe is much like the root beer recipe I posted previously, however, this concentrate is my own recipe and is made from scratch where you purchase the flavoring in the other recipe and just add a couple ingredients.
