Looking for a small easy way to say 'I Love Ya' to your friends this Valentine's Day?  Here is what I did this year.  I made small origami candy boxes, filled them with chocolate molded hearts, added a personal note and then decorated the boxes with card stock stickers and ribbon for each of my friends.

I used a video I found online to make the boxes.
You can view that video

   What You Will Need:
  • Colored card stock for boxes
  • Candy foil wrappers
  • Your favorite chocolate
  • Ziplock bags (for melting chocolate and filling molds)
  • Heart shaped candy molds
  • Ribbon
  • Valentine's embellishments for your boxes
  1. Make a list of the people you plan to give a box of chocolates
  2. Use the link above to prepare your boxes (each box requires two pages of card stock)
  3. Fill each Ziplock bag half full with your preference of chopped chocolate.
  4. Heat chocolate in short intervals of heat with the bag open in the microwave.  Check it often and knead the bag to mix the melting chocolate until your chocolate is fully melted.
  5. Remove the bag from the microwave and zip it shut with no air inside.  Knead the bag to mix chocolate well.
  6. Snip a tiny bit of the bottom corner of the Ziplock bag off and pipe the melted chocolate into the heart shaped candy molds.  Allow to set up in the molds.  I placed mine in the refrigerator to speed up the process so I could make a larger number of chocolates.
  7. Once your chocolates are ready for the boxes, wrap them in the candy foils.
  8. Write a short personal note for each person's box.  I used letter stamps to stamp out Proverbs 17:17 for each of my friends.  "A friend loves at all times..."  Whatever you like or need to say, this is your chance. :)
  9. I added a little piece of square wax paper in the bottom and tops of my homemade boxes.  This is optional.  I thought it made the boxes look nicer and the papers can already cut in the same bag with the foils.  I also used them to write my notes.
  10. Once your box is ready for the candy and notes, load them up and close them.
  11. Now write the name of each person on the bottom of their boxes so you don't accidentally pass personal notes out to the wrong friends.  That would not be good. :)
  12. Lastly, use your ribbon, stickers, stamps, and embellishments to decorate your boxes.  I placed Valentine's Day card stock stickers on top of each box.  I bought all of my decorations in the scrap booking section at Wal-mart and chose Valentine's Day items to keep in step with my theme.

Tip: Be creative and keep it simple.  This is a personal homemade Valentine's Day gift so your friends won't expect store bought perfection and your time and effort will be worth a great deal.  The personal note in each box will also make it very special for each person.  Don't forget to make one for yourself!  Enjoy!!
