I am pleased to say I finished my shrug in time for Spring this year.  Here is a simple way to make a quick shrug.

  • Knit a large rectangular panel in any pattern you like.  Iron it out flat.
  • Make it at least as long as the length of your arms from fingertip to fingertip with arms spread wide open and about 2-3 feet wide.  * The width of the panel will be the length of the garment from your neck to below your waist.
  • Lay the rectangle out flat in front of you and fold the top long edge down between 1/2 - 3/4 of the height of the panel.
  • Make the left and right edges meet on the sides.
  • Stitch the two edges together on both sides from the bottom up about 4 inches leaving the rest open for arm holes.

That is pretty much it!  Now you can add a button and a loop to pull it closed in front of you or if you made it wide enough you may be able to gather the ends and tie it in front.
