Christmas is not only a reminder that God came to us to be close to us and to reconcile us to Himself, but remember as we cross the threshold of a new year, God is STILL with us, day after day after day.

“And the LORD shall guide thee continually.” - Isa_58:11

In the Old Testament the Lord told Moses that He would not go through the wilderness before his people, an angel should go before them to lead them in the way; but Moses said, “If thy presence go not with me, carry us not up hence.” So God went with them.

Charles Spurgeon wrote, "Christian, God has not left you in your earthly pilgrimage to an angel’s guidance: he himself leads the van. You may not see the cloudy, fiery pillar, but Jehovah will never forsake you."  God has promised us in His Word to us, “I will never leave thee, nor forsake thee.” Notice in Isaiah the word "continually".

This is not a promise to sometimes walk with us or sometimes guides us.  God has not promised to occasionally leave us to our own understanding.  We are promised that when we draw near to Him we will "continually" hear His guiding voice.  If we follow close at his heels, we will be led by Him and He never leads us to destruction.  He may lead us into a wilderness, but He will go with us there and there is where we will grow and be strengthened.

Charles Spurgeon also said, "If you have to change your position in life; if you have to emigrate to distant shores; if it should happen that you are cast into poverty, or uplifted suddenly into a more responsible position than the one you now occupy; if you are thrown among strangers, or cast among foes, yet tremble not, for “the Lord shall guide thee continually.” There are no dilemmas out of which you shall not be delivered if you live near to God, and your heart be kept warm with holy love. He goes not amiss who goes in the company of God."

My prayer for you in the new year is that you WALK with HIM.  God is STILL with us. Read and meditate on the Word of God; listen to His still small voice.  Tune out the noise of this world and follow Him and be safe.  The world will persecute for Jesus' namesake, but in the belly of this world's fire, Jehovah will stand with you, comfort you, strengthen you, and prosper you and the flame will not touch you.
