This is an excerpt from a worship seminar given by Darlene Zschech.  Her teaching and guidance in this area is priceless.  A great reminder for everyone who has been given gifts of music from the Lord on how to use those gifts according to purpose and with fullness of power.  I was blessed I hope you will be too.

Darlene Zschech-

"Understand the purpose behind your gift. Romans 11:29 - It says that the gift and the call that are placed on your life, it says God's gifts and His call are irrevocable.  That means they cannot be undone.  That means that when God placed them within you, before the beginning of time, He knew what He was doing.  He planted them within YOU and knew you could be trusted to do the right thing.  Our God, all knowing, who knows you more intricately than anyone else, He planted those gifts not to frustrate you but that through your gifted life, GLORY would be brought to HIS name.  Whatever it is that you do, God planted it to bring Glory to His name.  Not to drive you crazy.  Has anyone ever felt frustrated with your gift?  When that gift and that call of God that burns within you is given to serve God then it will find its way.  It will find its way; it will find its place.  Your gift was given to serve the call of God on your life.  The call of God on your life was given to serve others.  And then TOGETHER we become His house.  And the HOUSE was designed to serve THE KING.  And that's how it works.  Singers, worship leaders, you gotta get good AT LETTING GO, letting go of your gift and sewing it into the purposes of God.  Most times things will work out far greater than you ever planned but way differently than you thought they would.  All God asks is that we are obedient.  God distinctly and divinely crafted YOU for His divine purpose.  It is critical to know how to serve Him beautifully all the days of your life.  See worship leaders, if you are trying to lead worship and trying to take people by the hand and point them to Christ and if you are feeling totally insecure and thinking oh, I hope people are noticing my voice, and I wish people were singing my songs, and that sense of frustration is in the middle of your worship leading, then you know it is very very hard to lead people into the awesome throne room of Christ.  Because very quickly it has become about you and not about Him.  And you know, I'm just being very very honest, this is the one area that keeps most musicians and singers out of their God given destiny.  It's called pride.  You must remember, the only person to ever get thrown out of heaven was a worship leader.  Very sobering thought.  Many Christians sit locked outside of their God given design, feeling like their gift has been over looked, but you need to be courageous and learn how to seek ye first the Kingdom of God and His righteousness and then all these things will be added.  Amen!  We are not like the world.  We are in it but we are not of it.  We have been born of a different seed.  So we can't copy their methods.  We get our methods from the Word.  Don't be frustrated.  It gives the enemy too much joy.  Don't give him one more minute of joy over your life!  If there is no room for you on the worship team at the moment, then you go and make tea for the worship team.  Go photocopy the charts, the music.  Equip and serve.  Do whatever it is that you can do to make your church great.  You know serving; serving in ANY area and being FAITHFUL are the qualifications for the leaders of praise and worship.  Build your life on thanksgiving. The path to the throne room of God is paved with thanksgiving.  Psalm 100:2 says "Worship the Lord with gladness."  2 Corinthians 4: 14-15 says "The same Spirit that raised Christ from the dead dwells within us.  All this is for your benefit so that the grace that is reaching more and more people may cause thanksgiving to overflow to the glory of God."  Serve with gladness without complaining.  Don't let the enemy steal your joy.  Play skillfully but shout for joy! You've got to be thankful people.  If those first few songs of praise become just your warm up songs before you get to the worship, then you've totally missed the point of the power of praising God.  You can tear walls down with praise.  You're proclaiming things that aren't as though they were because the Word says they are.  It is called faith!   And no matter how I'm feeling, I am going to praise my heart out, not because I feel like it, but because I understand what it does in people‚Äôs lives who are coming into the house of God.  They can come in sad and downtrodden but God says HE puts a song of joy in their hearts; the oil of joy for mourning, the garment of praise, for the spirit of heaviness.  You know the platform should just be jumping with praising people even if the church is sitting there looking like nothing is happening.  Has that ever happened to you?  I refuse to bow down to that.  I'm going to lead them into a place of VICTORY and a place of FREEDOM.  Worship leaders, that is your job.  It's not to show people how great you can sing or how great you can move.  But it's to lift people up and to grab hold of the goodness of God.  TO DO THAT you actually need to learn to be DISCIPLINED. And don't let your emotions get the better of you.  Creative people are often known to be very emotionally vulnerable.  And so when they're great, they're exceptional and when they're bad, wheeeeeeew.  But we don't have to live like that.  I SPEAK to my emotions and I say "SOUL you WILL bless the Lord, SOUL you WILL magnify the Lord. I WILL bless the Lord at all times.  His praise WILL be continually in my mouth!"  Amen."
